About Rika Singh:

Thank you for visiting and taking an interest in my photography. I live and work in Durban, South Africa as a web and graphics designer and have always wanted to take up photography. In 2009 I enrolled in courses and began putting my lecturers teachings into practise. It has been an amazing journey and one of great excitement for me. Like design, you never stop learning when you are behind that camera. I truly love what I do and I hope it reflects in the pictures you'll see on my website and blog. Family Shoot | The Singh Family

Wednesday, August 25th, 2010

If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Also come join my Facebook Page Thanks for visiting!

This was my second shoot that I did in Jo’burg this month. The Singh family are fun, easygoing people to hang around. Their daughter is a bundle of energy. In most instances we couldn’t get her to stay still. She also was very attached to a box of dental floss. How cute is that. :)  You’ll see it in some of the pictures. I think its charming and adorable that she was in love with a box of floss. Something to look back on and show her on her 21st birthday or when she gets married. ;)

Its a joy to photograph children and to be able to remember their quirks during the shoot. It makes me feel like I’ve had a special experience. Every shoot is a joy when you enjoy the small things about it. I never get tired of the feeling.

Family Shoot | The Ramsewak Family

Wednesday, August 25th, 2010

I did a shoot for the Ramsewak family while in Johannesburg recently. Their baby Kayush, who has just turned one, is so adorable. He was such a serious little man when I met him. He had this thoughtful look on his face and you just had to wonder what he is thinking. I love kids with personality’s like this. They are absorbing everything around them. At first he was a bit tired as the shoot took place right around his nap time but with the help of his mum and dad, we got some good shots of him. At the end of the shoot his dad asked me to wink at Kayush. Not sure what to expect but willing to give it a try (because I love babies and want ALL of them to like me) I winked at the baby. I waited a second… it felt longer than that though. And then, guess what. Kayush gave me a big shy smile. The first for me from the whole session. And then he couldn’t stop smiling at me afterwards. It was the cutest, most peculiar thing ever because he did a total 360 from not wanting me to touch him, to beaming at me! LOL. I loved it. Here is the little cutie pie below with his mum, Roxanne and his dad, Bruce.
