About Rika Singh:

Thank you for visiting and taking an interest in my photography. I live and work in Durban, South Africa as a web and graphics designer and have always wanted to take up photography. In 2009 I enrolled in courses and began putting my lecturers teachings into practise. It has been an amazing journey and one of great excitement for me. Like design, you never stop learning when you are behind that camera. I truly love what I do and I hope it reflects in the pictures you'll see on my website and blog. If you are looking for a specific category of my work, please use the menu button "Categories" above to navigate to categories such as Weddings, Children Photography, Pregnancy, etc. Please contact me via email at rika@rikasingh.co.za or call me on 083 792 8081 if you would like to book a shoot or just to discuss working with me. Majestic India | Part 3

Tuesday, January 25th, 2011

This is my third and final post on India. As with Part 1 and Part 2 the post is a bit long so please be patience while it loads. :) First up Amber fort in Jaipur. The following pictures were taken inside the tunnels that lead to the next level (no stairs for the kings!) and from a gorgeous old fashioned window at the top. Look at the light in the tunnel! Heaven.

Your first glimpse of the Taj Mahal is breathtaking. Walking through those big gates into this dim interior hall and catching your first sight of it is pretty amazing. I realised why its called one of the seven wonders of the world. Shah Jahan must have been a huge presence to have imagined and comissioned such an undertaking. Truly a sight I will never forget.

Goa was much like Durban. Hot and Humid. Tourist town. Lots of sun and fun. Its such a beautiful part of India and we met a great guide there. If you find yourself going to Goa and would like a great guide that will show you around, contact me! :)

A church:

We met this beautiful elephant named Lucky. Look at the way he is standing below. LOL

The view in Pune, visiting friends:

And lastly, the one thing that makes India truly unique, the traffic! :)

Majestic India | Part 2

Part 2 of our trip. Here is a bit more of Delhi:

The Hanuman Temple from the rooftop or our hotel below. Just missing the train! Then it would have looked (almost) exactly like the shot from 12/24 Karol Bagh the tv serial. LOL.

India is so rich with history and alive with culture. Its majestic with its structures, forts, castles and of course the Taj Mahal. When planning our trip  we wanted to visit The Golden Temple in Amristar. We’d seen it on tv and read alot about it but none of our friends and family had visited before so we didn’t know what to expect. Going there and experiencing it for the first time was wonderful. My mum cried, she couldn’t believe she was there. The temple’s exterior is made from gold and its surrounded by water. You can see the gold plates they used to build it. Amazing. Inside the temple is such an experience. They don’t allow pictures but I don’t think I could forget it. So I don’t have inside shots to show you. :) Here is The Golden Temple:

In India you are allowed to drive wagon’s, carts, bikes, cars, trucks, basically anything that can move, on the roads.

At the border of India and Pakistian:

This boy told us, ‘Ok you take my picture. You like me. You come back and buy postcard.’ :)

Our car was locked in at the border:

We had time to spare before our flight out of Amristar so Ren got some Mendhi done:

Please comment! :) Part 3 with the Taj Mahal experience and Goa to follow.

Majestic India | Part 1

Wednesday, December 8th, 2010

I’ve been away for a long time and many people have asked when the blog is going to get updated. Firstly, sorry to keep you all waiting! The past month has been busy and awesome and I’m about to share it all with you. This is a personal post so if you are visiting the blog to view my work, please use the categories tab to navigate to your subject of interest. :)

So let me tell you about India. I miss it. I miss the people, the sounds, the smell (yes, India has this unique smell. Not bad like you hear people telling you. More like a brand to say, yes you are here ;) ). The flight was long and tiring but worth it. I also want to make mention that my sister had a camera with her and some of the pictures you’ll see from our trip were taken by her. She tells me its so easy. No need to pay money for a course. She just watches me and then copies what I do. LOL. Lastly, I must warn you, this post is a bit long.

Ren, getting her chocolate on at O.R Tambo International. ;)

Flying to Mumbai:

Ah, Mumbai…

Family at the beach, having lunch. Things like Mcdonald’s and KFC are expensive for the locals that are not well to do. Heartbreaking to me and you, but they are really happy.

Shopping time! Check mum out on the right. Dad’s paying for everything on the left and she takes a chair across to look at more stuff! Heh! OMG.

Look at Ren. She was in retail therapy heaven.

‘No problem’. That’s what they tell you if you ask if you can take a picture. :)

Next stop… Delhi:

The Red Fort:

Part two coming soon!
