About Rika Singh:

Thank you for visiting and taking an interest in my photography. I live and work in Durban, South Africa as a web and graphics designer and have always wanted to take up photography. In 2009 I enrolled in courses and began putting my lecturers teachings into practise. It has been an amazing journey and one of great excitement for me. Like design, you never stop learning when you are behind that camera. I truly love what I do and I hope it reflects in the pictures you'll see on my website and blog. Family Shoot | The Govender’s

Tuesday, January 25th, 2011

I love babies. If there’s one in the room, I make a beeline for he or she just so that I can play with them. This extends into my photography. I love photographing children and babies. Its one of the reasons I love this job! This little family was a delight to photography. Their little cutie pie was such an angel even though the shoot took place around her nap time. :)

An April Wedding

Sunday, February 14th, 2010

Recently I got a request from friends of ours about doing their wedding pictures in April this year. I let them know that I haven’t done a wedding as yet and I would love to do it but if they would prefer to get someone with more experience I would definitely understand. I told them that I would come over for a shoot just to give them an idea of what I can do and talk them through what I would also do on the wedding day. I plan to take pictures of the decor and also of the bride getting ready. I’ll then work on getting some portraits of her at home and will go with them to the hall too. They agreeed for me to come and do a test shoot and it went rather well. I would love to have the opportunity to photograph the wedding. Here is a picture of the bride-to-be:

I’ve been researching Coffee Table Books for them as well and the prices are quite high but if you want quality, you have to pay for it. The company that makes the books are used by some great South African photographers and even togs from overseas are using them so I know its a good choice and the book won’t wear and tear in a few months. After doing tons of research on the options for Coffee Table Books in SA, I am happy to suggest this company to them because other printers are charging less and the books are not holding up over time. Photographers have good things to say about Furi Fine Art Books so I am going to suggest it to the client because I know it’ll be of excellent quality.

I have another photographer friend who will be 2nd shooting at the wedding. Together we’ll make sure we get all the necessary pictures so the Bride and Groom will remember their day with fondness when they look back at the pictures. Stay tuned to the blog to see if we cover this wedding. :)
